Captains Log, Friday Field Trip # 6 (# 34 of 2019-Pre Covid 19).
To understand what we’re trying to accomplish here, please refer back to this blog.
Why am I constantly enamored by aircrafts? I’d like to admit that it’s because I never grew out of the “Top Gun” phase but deep down, I just think I’m a weird individual. In fact, I’ve been known to take multiple birthday trips to The USS Midway in downtown San Diego.
Hey bud, you want to go enjoy San Diego, have fish tacos and beer on the waterfront? Nah, I’m good. I’d rather spend $30 to go look at the same aircraft carrier and airplanes for the 18th time.
It was December 31st 2019 and I forcefully took my family to March Air Force Base. March Air Force Base is an active military base in Riverside, CA (a good 1.5 hours) out of Orange County. On one side of the runway, they have the plane yard and the historic museum. There are over 25,000 exhibits to see (remember an exhibit could be a picture so don’t be alarmed). They have a few command centers and cockpits for the father, ahem, children can pretend to pilot an aircraft, as well as a small area dedicated to commercial travel. Prepare yourself, your grandfather is volunteering there, so please leave a small tip and listen to their story. Not only will you be helping out the volunteer, you'll begin the process of turning into your father (whether you want to or not).
We departed after breakfast, and my wife (who is extremely smart) purposely wouldn’t let us pack lunch so we would only embrace the museum for a few hours before lunch and naps were essential. The cost to visit is $12.00 for adults and depending on your child (the 5 year old who still passes for under 3 at Disney) it can be $6.00 or free, around $30 total for the family-kinda on the steep side when only 1 member for the family wants to do this, but overall an amazing visit.
wait your turn kid
Fun fact, our 5 year old was extremely into purses that day. She found this pink one in our closet. Enjoy the fashion.
