Captains Log, Friday Field Trip # 1.
To understand what we’re trying to accomplish here, please refer back to this blog.
I decided to take the kiddos on a 1 and a half hour (each way-nice math genius) Friday Field Trip to Riley’s Farm. Due to Covid, some of the activities (making candles, mercantile, corn husk dolls (sounds a lot creepier than it actually is) were not available. Remember, I’m with two little girls, not middle-aged boys who I can take them to a monster truck rally. The main goal of the trip was to pick Strawberries and pose like we weren’t looking at the camera.
Costs:
The cost of the trip is quite cheap. $7.00 to pick strawberries, we packed a picnic lunch so food came out of the grocery budget, and parking was free. If the other activities were open, I would’ve added an extra $5.00-$10.00. Also, I did splurge the $18.00 for the Homemade Apple Pie, let it be known this Apple Pie could end wars it tastes so amazing. I managed to only eat two pieces on the ride home.
As we moved into the strawberry fields, I moved myself back and watched the 5-year-old take charge and teach us all how to pull the strawberries off the vine. Later on, the 5-year-old would make sure the 2-year-old had plenty of strawberries to pick as well. It was a beautiful site seeing them laugh and play together. For a few bucks, we took a simple trip to a farm and turned it into a beautiful memory. Please note, we still battled with bedtime between the hours of 7:36 and 8:36 that evening.
Top Quotes:
5-Year-Old: Dad, why do we need to drive all this way up here when we can go to Trader Joes to get strawberries. I actually felt validated by this, I fully embraced the Clark Griswold feeling as they were driving to get a Christmas Tree
2-Year-Old: “Are you going to eat all of your sandwich?” We’re in a phase where she must eat whatever I’m holding.
Vaya Con Dios
