Travel Town!

Captains Log, Friday Field Trip # 7 (# 19 of 2019-Pre Covid 19).

To understand what we’re trying to accomplish here, please refer back to this blog.

Travel Town, all aboard for an odd but fun field trip!

We’re dashing up to Los Angeles here people, so get snacks, music, and hot coffee (ice coffee is for people I do not want to communicate with). It’s only 45 miles away, however we’re heading into the lions den of Los Angeles traffic, kiddos can always sense traffic and depending on their normal mood swings, it will intensify joy or painful suffering. Remember the rules for the car, 5 year old gets a song, 2 year old gets a song, then you get a song. Keep in mind, they may get stuck on “Be Prepared” from the Lion King, although greatly annoying it only last 2:34 seconds, which makes it closer to your jam. Also, I have no shame with my kiddos listening to Rancid or Chris Brown’s “Forever”-remember those wedding entrance videos from 2016?

brutal...it's just brutal

The first stop was a picnic lunch outside of Griffith Park. We were lucky enough to find a spot that had a horse trail (sounds smellier than it actually was). In the future we’ll visit The Griffith Observatory and the famous tunnel from Back to the Future Part II.

Travel Town is made up for old time trains, steam locomotives, a make shift car museum, gift shop, and a mini train ride experience. You will definitely find yourself turning into your father on this trip, you will be consistently making up ridiculous facts about trains, yep kids and basking in the fact they think you’re a genius (go ahead and let yourself have this one). The cost to visit is free (please leave a few bucks for a donation-don’t be cheap dad-in fact, you better be tipping your barista as well). $3.00 to ride the train (not worth it to the adults, definitely worth it to the kiddos.

We were so thankful to get in line behind a group of 65 people celebrating a birthday party, I’m even more blessed the sun was blaring down on our necks. Due to my thankfulness of waiting, I may or may not have bribed the precious non crying children with ice cream from the gift shop. Dad couldn’t afford the $7.95 Mini Thomas The Tank Engine, we needed the extra dough for a large cold brew (not iced coffee).
